EUROPEAN SOCIAL FUND 2007 - 2013 in the North East of England |

Latest NewsCLOSURE OF ESFVONIt is with regret that we inform you that ESFVON will be ceasing operations by the end of March 2010. This reluctant decision has been forced upon the organisation by the inability to maintain the Technical Assistance support we have received from successive European Structural Funds Programmes since our establishment in 1991. During these 19 years, we have worked with hundreds of organisations throughout the North East of England, including in Cumbria until regional boundary changes in 1997. The European Social Fund and the European Regional Development Fund, have played a major role in facilitating voluntary and community organisations in addressing the needs of those encountering disadvantage in the labour market, and particularly those experiencing multiple barriers. Equally, the initiatives undertaken within disadvantaged communities have been innovative and essential in contributing to the regeneration of the region. The hundreds of projects which have been funded contributed to the creation and sustainability of many hundreds of jobs, the training of tens of thousands of individuals, and countless community facility projects. European funding has provided the Voluntary and Community sectors in the North East region with over £300 million during this period towards project costs of c£700 million, a contribution that was not always recognised outside of the sector. ESFVON is proud of the role it has played in facilitating this process. We wish all the projects with which we have been involved, every success in the future and we are privileged to have worked with you over the years. With all best wishes DONALD M DEMPSEY OBEDIRECTOR 30th November 2009 - ESF - Evidence to the House of LordsEVIDENCE TO THE HOUSE OF LORDSThe Third Sector European Network, of which ESFVON is a member, was invited on 26 November 2009, to give evidence to a House of Lords sub sommittee on the effectiveness of the European Social Fund, from a Third Sector perspective.
